Gifts and wills
As part of your estate planning or tax optimization of your estate, you may want to consider making a will in the event of your death. If you already wish to endow one or more heirs during your lifetime, you may consider a gift. We can assist you in both cases in the do's and don'ts or in preparing and executing the necessary documents.

You can make arrangements for all or part of your property in the event of your death. One way of doing this is by drawing up a will. A will can be revoked at any time, provisions can be added or a completely new will can be drawn up at any time.
For example, a will can be useful when you have no children. In the event of your death, your surviving married partner will inherit your share of the community, but your own assets will then go to your family (parents, siblings, etc.). Possibly this is not what you would have wanted after your death. By drawing up a will with us, we can help you adjust this situation and come to an arrangement that is in line with your wishes.
Of course, a will is also a useful tool for succession planning for unmarried partners (legal or de facto cohabitants), people without close family or when you simply want to deviate from the legal arrangement of your estate. We go over your wishes for your estate with you, after which we put them into a legal framework together with you.

People generally inherit late in life. The situation can often arise where you want to give your heirs a portion of your estate even in your lifetime, for example, when you buy your first home or start a business. In addition, inheritance taxes are also relatively high in Belgium. The awareness that children and other heirs will inherit late and the awareness that (high) inheritance taxes will be owed by your heirs when they inherit play an important role in the decision to donate.
When we go over the different possibilities with you, you will be able to see with us that gifting in life has several advantages. By making a gift of capital, shares, real estate or a family business, you can ensure that your heir can already dispose of these assets. This also means that your heir will have to pay less inheritance tax/succession duties.
In addition, you can also attach certain conditions or modalities to the gift so that you do not lose complete control over the gifted assets. We will provide you with expert advice and solid assistance to achieve a gift to your liking.
